About UsThe organisation's aim is to provide opportunities for young deaf children to take part in a multi-activity camp. Activities can include abseiling, climbing, orienteering, air rifling, archery to name but a few. It also aims to enable the young deaf child to meet other deaf children, to gain confidence and develop newfound skills in the great outdoors. At Deaf Camp UK we recognise each camper's individual needs and wants. We focus on the social development of each camper and build on the camper's confidence and self-esteem. We provide role models through our staff, both d/Deaf and hearing. Whether that camper is 10 years old, 15 years old or any age in between, Deaf Camp UK offers a diverse, dynamic and exciting program in a rich and safe environment. We aim to offer the very highest in staff standards with low camper to staff ratios. The organisation is led by Deaf people, and the projects run under Deaf Camp UK are also Deaf-led. The pilot camp week was set up in 2001 with funding from the NDCS Jack Ashley Millennium Awards for Young Deaf People. It continues to go from strength to strength with funding from: Four Acres Trust (2007) Big Lottery Fund (2004 - 2006) Awards for All (2004) To contact Deaf Camp UK, please email us at info@deafcamp.org.uk |
